Experiencing the best of Jim Corbett National Park could best be done on Safari in various Safari Zones of Corbett. Geographically, the Park is divided into five splendid zones for better management of tourism in the Park.
The exotic wildlife of the Park is divided in these zones as per the geography of the Park. The best way to enjoy Safaris into the wild is in Jeep Safari or Canter Safari. Jeep Safari is preferable for a smaller group whereas a large group must choose the Canter Safari. However, for those adventurer souls, there is also an option of elephant Safari which is conducted mostly during early mornings.
The five Safari Zones of Corbett are Dhikala zone, Bijrani zone, Jhirna Zone, Dhela Zone and Durga Devi Zone & Pawalgarh forest zone safari You can choose from the following description whether which Zone to select according to your preference:
Dhikala is one of the most demanding & visited zones and top the list of tourists visiting the park. The best time to visit the zone is from November to June.As the entry gate for Dhikala Zone open 15th November every year and closed 15th June every year as you can enjoy the best weather during these seasons.Accordingly bookings get open 30 days prior of opening date.Dhikala zone mostly prefered for night stay at forest lodges in this zone like Dhikala FRH, Gaital FRH, Sarpduli FRH, Sultan FRH.To book night stay in these forest lodges you need to inform us 30 days prior of booking.We assist our clients in night say booking in dhikala zone.Jeep safari in dhikala only possible when you book night stay in in dhikala FRH.Dhikala offers an ultimate night stay within the jungle in Dhikala forest rest house where you can encounter some extreme experiences as it is deep inside the jungle with many wild animals visiting the locations.Situated on the edges of the Patli Dun valley, Dhikala Zone is known for natural life touring. On a visit to Dhikala zone, compensate yourself with the perspective on creatures like wild elephants, chital, hoard deer and various meadow winged animal species and raptors.Also, Dhikala is the largest zone of the park and is home to a huge variety of flora and fauna.Canter safari are conducted in this zone for day visit which takes 16 passengers in 1 canter.So early morning 2 canters go together same afternoon 2 canters.
The entry to this zone is from Amdanadda gate which is around 2 km from Ramnagar. The stunning natural views and home to exotic Bengal Tiger, Bijrani is no lesser of a zone. Since Jeep Safaris are allowed in this zone, it is the most visited zone by tourists.
But, it won’t be wrong to say that it has some spectacular tree rows, massive grasslands, and hills. The temperature inside the jungle is approximately five degrees lesser than outside.A wide range of wildlife species found in this region is what makes it a unique zone in the Corbett. Along with the enchanting view, this zone also boasts of having a large number of the tigers making it a best tiger sighting zone. You can also opt to stay inside this zone in Bijrani Forest Rest House and Mailani FRH.One safari jeep can carry a maximum of the 6 adults and 2 children excluding driver and guide/naturist. A guide is mandatory with the jeep to get the entry.
The entry to this gate is from Dhela Gate which is15 km from Ramanagar. This zone can be visited any time of the year in day Jeep Safari. Tiger spotting in this zone is frequent due to grasslands as the other two zones, however, it has a varied species of wildlife other than royal bengal tigers.Wildlife like tuskers, sambar, spotted deer, barking deers,Royal Bengal tigers ,Bear,wild boar & other various species of deer along with a large number of bird species are found in this zone. Jeep Safari procedure is same as Bijrani zone.
Only thing different here in this zone is that only 11 jeeps could enter in one shift and there is no provision of staying in Forest rest houses in this zone unlike other three safari zones of Corbett. Dhela zone is the latest added zone in Corbett National Park that began 2014. This zone also remains open all year round for safaris.
The zone consists of mix topography which includes the dense forest of trees like Sal, Haldu, Bahera, Rohini and Kusum along with the large grasslands and various water bodies. Leopards, wild elephants, Nilgai, different species of Deer, wild bears and the various species of reptiles and birds are common in this area.
For those who love bird watching, this zone is perfect for you. Birds like Grey headed fishing Eagle, Black Chinned Yuhina, Maroon Orile, Crested Laughing Thrushor, long tailed Broadbill are a common sight here. Besides this, it is the very zone in Corbett where the endangered Mahsheer fish come for breeding. The best time to visit this zone is from Mid November to June.Durga Devi Gate main entry gate to enter the zone which is 28 kilometers from Ramnagar; and when you enter, you can without much of a stretch see some extraordinary winged creatures like dark headed angling hawk, dark chinned yuhina, peaked giggling thrush, slaty blue flycatcher and maroon orile. The Lohachaur woods region at Durga Devi zone is best viewed as a spot to spot panthers and other wild creatures. So as to make your stay first class, you can book a stay at the Lohachaur timberland visitor house. For the safari in Durga Devi Zone, you need to benefit a grant from the woods authorities at the section entryway.
This zone is the reserve forest zone and is attached with Corbett Tiger reserve area.The entry route is through sitabani entry gate with entry of 100 jeeps at one time in this zone & recently opened entry gate through pawalgarh area that called as pawalgarh zone with the entry limi of 150 jeeps at one time,This is suitable for clients stay at bailpadao resorts like tiger lane resort, tiger den resort, pugmark resort, pawagarh forest resort, bagheera resort, as Birdwatchers favourite zone for safari you can find many herbivores strolling around like tuskers,deers Besides, this zone is pretty amazing for bird watching with 600 species of birds coming here.Spotting tiger is all depends on luck like other zones but you not need to regret as this pawalgarh zone has other plenty of wildlife like tuskers, spotted deers, barking deer, sambhar, wild bores, wild bear, variety of reptiles, If you just want to appreciate the beauty and have some quality time with family and friends, this zone is for you.Jeep safari is same like other zones but the booking of permits is offline on the entry gate of this pawalgarh forest zone.But visitors should book jeep in advance for safari in this zone.
