Fauna in Jim Corbett National Park

Corbett National Park is one of the oldest and largest national parks in India; also it was the first project which came under the Tiger Reserve in India. Park isn’t just famous for tigers as well as for other different varieties of animals and species of various rare fauna. The total area of Jim Corbett is 1318 km2 and the main area is 797 km2 the remainder came under the title of Buffer area. The population of wildlife creatures always falls on the increasing side as the atmosphere and weather remain positive for flora and fauna. Today, it is known as the best-preserved park with a good number of animals and different species with it. Animals like the Royal Bengal Tiger, Asiatic Elephant, Gharial, King Cobra, and different varieties of fishes and birds like Trout, Goonch, Mahseer, Tuna and so many more. 

Mammals- The most common mammals in this region are the Royal Bengal Tiger with a no. of 230-250 approximately (mostly on the increasing side), the Asiatic Elephant with a total no. of 600, Deer(Sambar deer, Hog deer, Barking deer, Spotting deer), Wild Boar, Sloth Bear, Chital, Leopard, Jackal, Rabbit, Yellow Throated, Otters, Rhesus Monkey and so many more can be seen as they always revolving around the reserved Corbett area for food or water.  

Reptiles- Species in reptiles that can be seen easily but can be dangerous if you witness them are Crocodile, Gharial, King Cobra, Russel viper, Rock Python, Monitor Lizard, etc.

Birds- Since Corbett is located in the mountainous region of Uttarakhand, where birds like the great pied hornbill, Red Jungle Fowl, Thick-knee, and Bush hen can be seen. For a long time, Corbett was just known for Tiger viewing, today visitors are also going there to observe the birds because there are so many different kinds of birds to see there as Golden Eagle, Black Eagle, Crested Kingfisher, Peacock, Brown Fish Owl, Hawk Eagle, Woodpecker, Fincher and so many more.

Fishes- Since rivers surround Corbett on all sides, different types of fish can be spotted. Fishes like Tuna, Goonch, Mahseer, Trout, Katla, Kalanchi, Calbasu, Hoonen, and Rohu have been seen before.
